Being evicted sucks!

ant's picture

Bad timing right now with my annual summer crunch time (already working overtime/OT). I don't understand why my pad needs to be remodelled. It looks fine, sure it's old from the 70s but it is livable. Who cares! Leave it alone! :( My life is so f**ked up right now with work, looking (soon to set up) for a new laptop/notebook) for a client, stress, eviction, remodelling, etc. Ugh, someone please kill me like an ant.

So it begins and my life has gone bonker.

Yesterday, contractors came and took almost everything down and out from downstair floor. No carpets, no kitchen table, no sinks, no stove, no refridgerator/fridge, no bathroom, etc. Man, it really smells like wood (dusty too) and fish. Upstair, my room is untouched so far. Books and a bunch of unneeded stuff are already packed. I found out that no unencrypted wireless are close and strong to use at the temporary place, so I will be stuck on 3 KB/sec dial-up for maybe two weeks. :( I still have many other things to do. No time for rest (5 hours a day).

Ugh, my home's and office's Windows XP Pro. hates me. At home, explorer.exe keeps crashing due to ntdll.dll. At work, winlogon.exe goes berserk due to audio loss(?). Very annoying! I don't know what is causing it.

Work is calming down for a week or so since consumer 2009 public betas are out. Go test if you're brave. ;)

My life is going to be screwy for the rest of this month. I wouldn't mind crunch times right during the house remodelling. Ugh! :(

No frack'in sinks!

Yesterday, the contractors removed the last working sink and faucet in the house. I had to use the bath tub's faucet and dump my crap into the toilet (thanks God this is not removed). SO annoying! :(

Did get a wireless connection at the temporary housing, but...

... it is SO unstable and slow/laggy on my old 15" Apple PowerBook G4. I was losing many packets, to the unencrypted wireless router, up to 15% on a good connection! I also had problems staying connections (lots of disconnections). The best spot in the house was right behind the front door. I don't know why either. I thought a corner of the house or behind big windows would be better. Man, I wished the old lady had her own PC and broadband Internet. I will probably have to use my dial-up (3 KB/sec only). :(

Found a slightly better spot.

I have to be in the hot garage behind the garage door. It will do for now, but the connection isn't that stable. Here's my pings to the unknown neighbor's wireless router:
--- 192.168.1.1 ping statistics ---
2653 packets transmitted, 2387 packets received, +1 duplicates, 10% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max = 3.282/17.85/966.196 ms

I need to get my home main machine to move to here. I have a couple stronger wireless USB devices to try and maybe I can be indoor. Time to get out of my dusty room at home tonight.

Stupid blue screens with Hawking Tech.'s HWU54D & wind502u.sys

Ugh, after hours of using the Internet per boot up/reboot, my Windows XP Pro. SP3 decide to blue screen (DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL) because of wind502u.sys. This file is from Envara that my old original Hawking Technologies Hi-Gain USB Wireless-G Adapter HWU54D use for wireless Internet connections. It takes hours to reproduce after a reboot/boot up.

Pastie has a see a crash memory dump if you're curious. It's not the third party firewall since I already tried disabling it. :( Technical support doesn't support this old device, no newer drivers, don't know why, and have no reports of this. I wonder if it is incompatible with SP3

I think I resolved the blue screen.

I don't recall having this problem in the beginning during my temporary house eviction and before that. I have been using a 2' or so extended USB cable so I can place the device higher to get better signals and connections. I removed this piece last night and did not have any blue screens for over twelve hours nonstop. I even downloaded overnight!

Hawking Technologies' technical support said: "The HWU54D is powered by the USB ports on the back of the computer. The crashes could be caused by the extension cable not providing sufficinent power to the HWU54D. Your printer doesn't crash because it's also powered by an AC adapter. That might be the cause of your issues."

Dang it. Oh well. :(

Nope.

I take that back (extended USB cable). I just had another blue screen with 4.5 hours of uptime and connection. I wonder what made it stable yesterday. Ugh, I want to go home!! :(

Damn you, Electronic Arts and SecureROM!

They were the one that caused my XP's Explorer.exe to crash with ntdll.dll like crazy even in safe mode. See here for details. :(

My old toy box...

Wow, I found my old toy box that I grew up with, buried deep in my room closet. Inside was all these old toys from mostly from the 80s. I even found old Voltron metal (rusty) lion set and a plastic blazing sword. I have a couple rubber snakes, a yellow plastic moving snake (wait, I liked snakes?), old remote race tracks with cars, a giant furry plush banana (got it in sixth grade from a classroom auction/trade?), Coleco's Sega's Frogger, etc. Dang. Flashbacks!!

From quick eBay searches, nothing is really worth a lot (all used and no original boxes and stuff). I really wished I kept my 80s Transformers G1 and He-Man toys (used though). Those seems to be worthy these days. :(

ant's picture

Again!

Again, your old overlord just saw them in that old dusty toybox with toys. However, it looks like Transformers G1 (did not see Optimus Prime?) were finally found them to sell them for good prices(?), a Japanese mech., hockey game in a water container, Pac/Puck-Man hand puppet from a Sin City/Las Vegas game prize (yeah, that fever back in the 1980s/80s), squeezable noise making lizard, Fire Hawk game, etc. :P

Hmm, no signs of He-Man toys though. :(

"Hasta la vista, baby." --T800 from Terminator 2 (T2) movie.

That childhood toy box gets evicted to storage in another place. Nothing is kept in the old nest to make room and your overlord probably be evicted.

A month? And so noisy!

I noticed the paper schedule said until the 18th to be done. Argh! That's like a month away. :(

It's so loud with the contractors working in the house with drills, hammerings, etc. I just turn off my hearing aid to block most of the decibels/Db. ;)

Packed and moved out.

Finally, I finished packing and moved out from my room to the temporary housing for a few weeks. It was last night at almost 11 PM PDT and I didn't eat dinner yet. I wanted to finish so I didn't have to deal with it during my work days.

Ugh, my computer lost one of the three hard disk drives, so I had to fix that inside the case (whew). I tried using the other wireless universal serial bus (USB) adapters that are supposedly strong, and I was able to get a more reliable connection (same place) in the hot garage. There were still some packet losses and disconnections, but much better than the notebooks/laptops. Speed is better too (2 Mb/sec), but not great and better than 3 KB/sec dial-up (will keep it as a backup until I return to home with a working cable modem connection -- hope contractors don't ruin it!).

Ugh, I woke up with a minor headache and not used to the new environment. Ugh, I am going to hate my life the next few weeks. :( I don't mind working overtime (OT) for the next weeks even to break my 31 days!

Day #9 (remodelling) & Day #2 of Out My House

Ugh. My tired and aching folks (dad even yelled at the contractors) are fighting at each other, contractors are slow and doing bad jobs, etc. The bed I am using is hard (yes, there's a matress), but I manage to sleep 4-5 hours on it (not great) so far. Ugh! How much longer? Grr. I miss my old home! :(

Day #6 at temporary house...

Last night, stupid wireless won't let me connect even with strong signals after two hours on two different machines with different wireless USB adapters and a laptop/notebook. Blah. :( I can't even force the software to pick the strong Linksys (99%) AP! Ugh. Stupid crap. I miss my home! This morning at 5 AM PDT, I was able to get on so far. Ugh, this garage is hot!

Speaking of home, I visited it after my monthly morning haircut. It was very white indoor with the new fresh of white paint. And it smells. Ugh. My room looks like a scene from Poltgerist movie with all furtintures moved. Man, thisweekend is going to be boring and I want to see The Dark Knight movie on IMAX (preferred) or DLP, but my friend is out of town for a retreat. :( I'd rather be at work to stay cool, get free meals, make overtime money, and have stable fast Internet.

After a week at temporary house...

"Work sweet work" (back in office)! Yes, I am glad to be at work since temporary hot home, unstable wifi and slow dialup, and boring weekend sucked! I had to use dial-up on my old PowerBook G4 on Friday night and Saturday morning since I couldn't get on. :( I hate it. I'd rather be at work doing overtimes and have nice air condition, free food, etc. Blah. It will probably be the same this week. I hope I can start moving back in this weekend, but I doubt it since contractors are frackin' slow! My life continues to be screwy! I miss my home and its Internet! :(

I found out it will be about another 1.5 weeks or more. :(

Week #2 ...

Ugh. The second week is almost over. It felt way longer like a month! Right now, garage is warm already like yesterday.

Today will be busy since I will finally be seeing The Dark Knight movie (it better be good from all the hypes and comments) at Arclight Dome in Hollyweird/Hollywood (no IMAX though, but reserved seatings (got center ones) and DLP). Also, doing a late dinner and belated birthday for Ming as well (he gets a free expensive movie and gas/partial dinner from me paying). Doing both with an old Christian friend that I grew up since the early 80s(?).

I was told that moving back might be next weekend, but I might have to work overtime/OT. Ugh! I hope I can watch the Chinese Olympic's opening ceremony on my computer with high definition/HD, but I need to find my old bowtie antenna (hope it works in the garage at a lower elevation level). Ugh!

I really miss my home even if I saw it yesterday evening (still has a lot of work to do). I saw my new toiletless bathroom sink, lights, windows, shutters, etc. :( [sighs]

I also had to find new furnitures for my room. Man, it's so hard to find a good desk with plenty of leg rooms, wheels, big, no glass since I like to bang on my desks, etc. :( Man, I should stick with these cheap big non-computer/non-office desks.

Dang earthquake!!!

At about 11:41 AM PDT, there was a strong earthquake. I found out its epicenter is near my house. Crap, I hope it didn't crack the remodelling house, knock over my stuff (boxes too; uhh, my USB wireless device was on a tall ladder -- dang it (hope it is not broken)!), cause more delays, etc. I just realized today is the day windows get replaced! Crappppppppppppp, my life gets worse.

Almost done, new desks, tap dancing, etc.?

I visited my missed dusty and dirty "under reconstruction/remodelled" house this morning before going to work. I think I will need some tap dancing shoes and tap dance lessons for my new wooden floors. However, I will never be a "dancing queen" ant since I am just a worker ant (they don't get laid :P). ;)

Oh and I think I found a good office desk from a neighbor's/friend's home office who is downsizing (how sad). Hopefully, all this remodelling crap is done by this weekend (will I be working that weekend?). :(

Nope.

Yay, my folks and I can move back in and I don't work that weekend. Ugh, I don't like the idea of unpacking, reconnecting (50+ cables or so), getting used to the new environment, etc. I hop[e I can get all important parts done before I go nuts at work. :(

Not again.

My folks are fighting, work, and stress are building up. I hope to move back in this weekend too. I hate life again. :(

Back!

Finally, I got back in my old revamped pad yesterday. I have to get used to the new odor, looks (no more old wallpapers, new cabinets, new bathrooms, new ceiling lights, new windows, new shutters, wooden floors, new desks/tables, etc. Floors felt good during the hot weather. During the move earlier, I accidently twisted/sprang one of my right foot toes because I was trying to run away from the sprinklers and it was wet (a bad idea, huh?). :( I have minor bruises under the toe, and I am OK now (can walk fine with shoes).

After moving back in, it was hot and took off my shirt later on. Ugh, setting up my computers and PCs with basic stuff and Internet was a pain. At first, my internal network couldn't find my router but can find my connected PCs. That took a while to resolve (e.g., wrong cable directions and stuff). Then, I couldn't reach my cable modem via pings and get on the Internet. Again, had to figure out what's up. Blah! This morning, I can't get good signals on some digital television/TV stations (e.g., KCBS2) due to new desks, positions, and at lower elevation. Ugh.

Ugh.

Still not done with unpacking and settling down due to lack of motivation, hot weather (almost 90F degrees in my room), and no room. :(
