Norton SystemWorks 2005 products have gone gold!

| |

IT'S OVER FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Symantec's Norton SystemWorks 2005 products have gone gold! Yeehaw!

After many days of working, banging my head on table and walls, kicking and cussing the computers, shaking my fists, drinking a lot of Boba Teas and sodas, getting shot by coworkers' Nerf guns (one on my butt, one on my leg (that hurts a lot), and arm), my crunch time has ended! 31 days is it! Poll shows two people guessed correctly. Last year's record was 27 days! I did not break my work hours for the week. The most was 74.5 hours compared to 82.75 hours from last year. I wonder if I can break 31 days next year. Hmmm!

BugMeNot v0.4 (8/2/2004) extension/plug-in released for Mozilla and FireFox

| | | |

v0.4 update now will automatically fill in the web site's fields with the first username and password combination it finds, and the BugMeNot popup will automatically close. If it isn't a valid combination, just right-click, select BugMeNot again, and this time, the window will stay open to ensure you get a valid combination. The script will still automatically transfer the information to the web site's fields.

Introduction to BugMeNot for those who never heard of it. It is an extension that enables the user to bypass compulsory web site registration, (e.g., New York Times). Most users who try and read an article are linked to a splash site, where they are urged to register for their free account in order to view the content. The problem with mandatory registrations is that most people will enter false information to speed up the process, making this form of demographic surveying a moot point.

PuTTY v0.55 Released! Serious Security Hole Fixed!

| | |

From PuTTY's home page for its free telnet/SSH client:

2004-08-03 SECURITY HOLE, fixed in PuTTY 0.55

PuTTY 0.55, released today, fixes a serious security hole which may allow a server to execute code of its choice on a PuTTY client connecting to it. In SSH2, the attack can be performed before host key verification, meaning that even if you trust the server you think you are connecting to, a different machine could be impersonating it and could launch the attack before you could tell the difference. We recommend everybody upgrade to 0.55 as soon as possible.
